A tall, dusky, flimsy South Indian girl, with long strands of hair was introduced by King Khan in Om Shanti Om. This wasn’t the first time she made men go weak in the knees, as she blazed the ramp as a model years before as well. Be it Shanti Priya in OSO or the practical and contemporary Mira in Love Aaj Kal, Deepika Padukone has surely made her distinct identity and style statement in the industry.
Not only did she flaunt her long hair in films, but Fiama Di Wills chose her for endorsing their shampoo. Now, however, times have changed. With her upcoming movie Karthik Calling Karthik, opposite Farhan Akhtar, Deepika had to shorten her trademark waist length hair and get a short spiky cut to fit the demand of her character.
The promos of Karthik Calling Karthik look very interesting with Farhan playing a role of a very simple guy and Deepika is seen as a lively partying and frustrated chain smoker in a very casual and uber cool look. The Director Vijay Lalwani says, “It wasn’t an easy task convincing Deepika to chop her hair short, for she maintained her Rapunzel hair for quite some time now.” But then he somehow managed to convince her to chop her long hair, and the result definitely looks stunning. Deepika looks quite happy with the kind of feedback she’s getting by her fans for the new look.
The last time Deepika experimented with her hair was for Chandni Chowk to China, when she got a fringe for herself. But unfortunately the fringes couldn’t entice her fans to come and see the movie. Let’s hope that, unlike CC2C and her infamous special appearance in the horrid Main Aur Mrs Khanna, which was met with yawns, KCK does as well as Deepika’s new makeover. The film is set to release on the same day as SRK’s My Name is Khan. Which one would you watch (first)?
